Frequently asked questions

What is LingoNews?

LingoNews is a German-learning app that teaches through real daily news articles. Only the key words are translated — in context, right inside the sentence, in your language — so you stay immersed in German while reading authentic news and building vocabulary naturally.

What level of German do I need?

LingoNews works best for learners with a solid foundation, around B1 or B2. It provides enough support to read real German news comfortably while preserving the challenge that helps you keep improving.

Which languages does LingoNews support?

The app is available in eight languages: English, Portuguese, Spanish, Arabic, Hindi, Chinese, Turkish, and Ukrainian. Inline translations, the interface, and flashcards all follow your chosen language, with full right-to-left support for Arabic.

How do flashcards and "mastered words" work?

Every word you save while reading becomes a flashcard, which you answer by saying the German out loud. When you answer a word correctly five times in total, it counts as mastered — a lifetime number that only grows. Milestones celebrate your progress every 20 mastered words.

How do streaks work?

Your streak grows with correct flashcard answers — it reflects real practice, not just opening the app. Keep answering correctly to climb through the streak tiers.

How often are new articles published?

New German news articles are published every day, covering current events across a range of topics.

Is my data safe?

Yes. Please see our Privacy Policy for full details on what we collect and how it's used. You can also contact us at support@lingonews.app with any privacy question.

Subscription & billing

How much does LingoNews cost? Is there a free trial?

New users get a 7-day free trial. After the trial, Premium costs 5.99 € per month or 59.99 € per year (about 5.00 € per month) and gives you unlimited, ad-free access. Prices include VAT and may vary slightly by country and app store.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Your subscription is billed and managed by the app store you purchased through — not by LingoNews directly.

On Android (Google Play): open the Play Store app → tap your profile picture → Payments & subscriptionsSubscriptions → LingoNews → Cancel subscription.

On iPhone (App Store): open Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → LingoNews → Cancel Subscription.

You keep Premium access until the end of the period you've already paid for.

I paid but Premium isn't active. What do I do?

First, make sure you're signed in to the same app-store account you purchased with, then restart the app. If Premium still doesn't activate, use the Restore purchases option on the subscription screen in the app. Still stuck? Email support@lingonews.app with your order confirmation and we'll sort it out.

How do refunds work?

Because payments are processed by Google Play or Apple, refunds are handled through their systems: request a refund in your Google Play order history or at reportaproblem.apple.com. If you run into trouble, contact us and we'll do our best to help.

I have a promo code. Where do I enter it?

You can enter your promo code on the subscription screen inside the app. If your code isn't accepted, email support@lingonews.app with the code and we'll check it for you.

Technical support & troubleshooting

The app won't load or keeps crashing

Try these steps in order — they resolve most issues:

1. Fully close the app and reopen it.
2. Check that you're connected to the internet (try switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data).
3. Update LingoNews to the latest version in Google Play or the App Store.
4. Restart your phone.
5. If nothing helps, reinstall the app — your progress is tied to your account, so signing back in restores it.

Articles aren't updating or won't download

This is almost always a connection issue. Check your internet connection, then pull down to refresh the article list. If articles still don't appear, close and reopen the app. If the problem persists for more than a day, please let us know at support@lingonews.app.

Audio isn't playing

Check your device volume and make sure silent mode is off. If other apps play sound but LingoNews doesn't, close and reopen the app. If a specific article or word still has no audio, email us the exact word or article title — that helps us fix it fast.

Flashcards don't hear me when I speak

Speaking flashcards need microphone access. Check that LingoNews has microphone permission: on Android, Settings → Apps → LingoNews → Permissions → Microphone; on iPhone, Settings → LingoNews → Microphone. Also make sure no other app is using the microphone, speak clearly at normal volume, and try removing Bluetooth headsets if recognition seems off. If it still doesn't work, email us your phone model and we'll investigate.

How do I report a bug or a translation error?

Email support@lingonews.app. Please include: your phone model, your app language, what you expected, and what happened instead. A screenshot helps enormously. We read every report.

Account support

How do I change my translation language?

Open the app settings and choose a new language. Inline translations, the interface, and your flashcards will switch to the selected language.

Will I lose my saved words if I get a new phone?

No — your saved words, mastered words, and progress are tied to your account. Install LingoNews on your new device and sign in with the same account to pick up where you left off.

How do I delete my account?

Email support@lingonews.app from the address linked to your account and request deletion. We'll confirm and permanently remove your account and associated data. Remember to also cancel any active subscription in Google Play or the App Store first — deleting the app or the account does not cancel a subscription.
